UNIVERSAL DEMAND FOR JUSTICE FOR GENOCIDE OF VICTIMS OF THAMIL EELAM
![]() |
The rally “Justice for Genocide Victims of Tamil Eelam” was held on May 18, 2011 before the office of the U.N. in New York from 10.00 a.m.to 4.00 p.m. and a candle light vigil was held from 8.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Nine organizations namely, Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam, United States Tamil Political Action Council, Canadian Tamil Congress, National Council of Canadian Tamils, Ilankai Tamil Sangam, Naam Thamilar - North America, World Thamil Organization, Tamils for Obama, and Tamils Against Genocide are jointly organizing this rally demanding legal action according to International laws against Rajabakshe, the President of Sri Lanka.
The Singala fanatic and the arch enemy of humanity, Rajabakshe by indiscriminately killing the Tamil citizens of Sri Lanka, shooting them like a flock of birds, utilizing the three arms of the army, has thrown into the dust bin the international humanist laws, laws of human rights and international norms of war. This rally was conducted to insist that Rajabakshe must be tried in the International Court of Justice is most welcome.
It deserves our much appreciation that nine organisations, having different stands and approaches, have joined to organise this rally and to guide the international community on this sensitive issue.
If the organisations in Tamil Nadu supporting the cause of Tamils of Eelam come forward to take this rally as an example, it would be more useful and would be welcomed by all.
The organisations in various countries of this world have raised their voices condemning the racial genocide took place in Sri Lanka. Even if their voices were not taken into account, the Panel appointed by the Secretary General of U.N. itself , in its enquiry report, had categorically declared that the killing of the people of Tamil Eelam by the Government and Army of Sri Lanka is actually a racial genocide and Rajabakshe has committed several war crimes and the panel has recommended for a detailed enquiry into these war crimes. Is it not the responsibility and duty of the U.N. to undertake such a detailed enquiry?
Of course there is a requirement that the Security Council of the U.N. must approve of such an action and to seek such approval, much pressure is to be exercised through the uprising of people. The rally held in New York gains importance in this regard.
We can say most convincingly that the killings of Tamils of Eelam in Sri Lanka are the biggest acts of human genocide that took place in our life time.
Dravidar Kazhagam, along with the Dravidar Iyakka Tamilar Peravai held demonstrations and conducted public meetings in various big towns of Tamil Nadu and created awareness among the public about this issue.
With enough international organisations and suitable international laws, could they have not themselves taken initiative in condemning and punishing those responsible for this genocide? Only then, it could be construed that the international laws are properly executed, human rights are properly protected and civilized policies are strictly followed.
On the other hand, if some of the countries of the world join together, form an alliance and try to thwart the initiative to order further enquiry into the war crimes and prosecute those responsible for the genocide in Sri Lanka, it will defeat the very purpose of the existence of the U.N. If the racial maniac Rajabakshe is not punished, it would mean that free licence is granted for any atrocities to be committed in any part of the world.
Particularly, it is the moral responsibility and duty of the Government of India to take initiative in bringing a trial against Rajabakshe in the international court of justice. The Government of India has been acting sofar only against the interests of Tamils and in support of Sri Lanka.
At least now, when the international organisations from countries outside India are undertaking such rallies and demonstrations, Indian should come forward to perform its legitimate duty of protecting the rights of the Tamil ethnic people. It would be an appropriate opportunity for India to free herself from the wrongs committed sofar.
The Government of India should not take an adamant stand in this issue, which will create a blot on it in the history which could not be erased so easily and the price it has to pay and the loss it has to incur will be immense.
We would like to bring it to the notice of the Government of India that a case has been filed by the Eelam Tamils living in Norway, a country which was mediating the peace talks between LTTE and the Govt. of Sri Lanka, against Rajabakshe and others responsible for the genocide of victims of Tamil Eelam.
The agitation conducted before the office of the U.N. in New York is a very significant one. On behalf of Dravidar Kazhagam, we welcome and appreciate the unity of the Tamils of the world for a common cause.
V.Anburaj, Headquarters Secretary of Dravidar Kazhagam participated in the rally. Dr. Soma Ilangovan, Director of Periyar International, Pennsylvania and other comrades also participated in this rally.
We would like to add that after taking into account the outcome of this rally in New York, and considering the circumstances, Dravidar Kazhagam will decide on the future course of action to be taken.
We earnestly request the political parties, other organizations and people of Tamil Nadu to come forward to insist the Government of India to act speedily on this issue, transcending their political differences.
