WHAT ARE INDIA AND THE U.N.GOINGTO DO IN TAMIL EELAM ISSUE?
All the countries of the world have realized now clearly that the
people of Tamil Eelam are not going to get any justice or solution
from the Singhalese Government of Rajapakse.
In the guise of fighting against terrorism, Rajapakse government killed lakhs and lakhs of innocent Tamilians by shelling bombs on the civilian areas including hospitals and schools. In its fight against LTTE the army forced the civilians to leave their habitations to save themselves. Tens of thousands of innocent people were killed in the fighting between Army and LTTE in which nearly 1.75 lakhs of Tamilians lost their lives. Even after the fight was over, the civilians were kept in barbed wire camps under most unhygienic conditions. They were not given sufficient food, medicines for their ailments and proper shelter. They were not allowed to be visited by the international agencies like Red Cross or UN or UNESCO. After much pressure from the world community and persuasion, the Sri Lanka government rehabilitated the Tamilians detained in the camps. But all of them were not rehabilitated. Moreover the houses and other properties of the Tamilians fled at the time of the fighting was occupied by the Singhalese with the help of the Government of Sri Lanka. the Singhalese were made to migrate into the Tamil areas in large numbers.
The Govt. of Sri Lanka did not keep any one of the promises given to the Government of India, whether finding of a political solution for the issue of Tamil Eelam or devolution of powers or construction of houses for Tamilians from the funds provided by the Govt. of India. To bring an end to the inhuman conditions in which the Eelam Tamilians are living, the world community is insisting the UN to try Rajapakse for war crimes. Countries like USA have stopped the financial aids previously committed to Sri Lanka.
The Channel - 4 in England telecast expose the cold blooded murder of innocent Tamilians, women and children by the Army of Sri Lanka. Tmt. Chandrika Kumaratunge, former President of Sri Lanka, said that her son wept with shame on seeing this broadcast. She also pleaded that though the Tamilians are in minority their rights should be recognised and they should also be given due responsibility in the governance of the country. She also told that the government should know about the serious consequences if they are trying to suppress the Tamilians in the hope that the LTTE was wiped out.
It cannot be repudiated that the various assistances, financial and military, given by the Government of India to Sri Lanka indirectly helped in a great way to annihilate the Tamilians.
Let the past be past; at least now the Government of India should come forward to think about the future of the Eelam Tamilians. The UPA Government at the Centre should not forget that it was able to come to power at the Centre only with the full support of the people of Tamil Nadu. Therefore it should not wound the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu by supporting anylonger the Rajapakse government. The Prime Minister of India and the Chairman of the UPA should ponder over these.
Tmt. Sonia Gandhi visited Bangladesh on the 25th and received the highest award given posthumously to Indira Gandhi for helping the creation of the State of Bangladesh. More justifiable, demanding, and urgent reasons are there for the creation of Tamil Eelam than the reasons prevailed for the creation of Bangladesh. The only solution, political or racial or humanitarian, for the peaceful living of Eelam Tamilians is the creation of a separate Tamil Eelam.
The Government of India should not cajole or request the Government of Sri Lanka any longer, but should dictate terms. India should not be afraid that Sri Lanka will join with Pakistan or China.
If any one seriously reflects on the sagacity of the action of Indira Gandhi in permitting the arms training being given to LTTE and other groups, it could be seen that the defence of India is also one among them.
Even after undergoing untold sufferings and the atrocities of the Sri Lankan Government, the Tamilians of Tamil Eelam clearly expressed their sentiments in the recently held Sri Lankan Local Body elections.
Tamil National Federation won in 18 provinces out of 26 provinces in Tamil area. Another Tamil organization Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) won in 2 provinces. The Swathanthra front was able to get only 2 provinces in the area. The reason for its success in these 2 provinces is also due to the alliance formed by Douglas Devananda with Eela People Democratic Party.
The alliance of Rajapakse was able to capture only 45 seats in all. The Marxist J.V.P. Party, the most Singala Fanatic party could not get even a single seat and was made to eat the dust. No doubt, it is a good news.
The results of this election have attracted the attention of the world community. At a time when the reasonable demand to try Rajapakse for his war crimes and to punish him is rising alarmingly throughout the world, the judgement given by Eelam Tamilians in the elections gives an inducement and encouragement for the opinion against Rajapakse.
The countries, supporting Rajapakse, the arch enemy of humanity, particularly the Communist countries, must come forward to change their approach and attitude atleast now after witnessing the results of the local body elections in Sri Lanka. This is a golden opportunity for them to vipe out and clear the bad name earned by them in supporting the Rajapakse government in Sri Lanka.
What is most important today is all countries of this world including India should insist on a referendum in Tamil Eelam.
Was not such a referendum held in South Sudan recently?
98.83% of people voted for a separate country , the result of which the national flag of South Sudan is flying in the UNs. Before that a referendum was held in East Timur and it was declared as an independent country. Similarly Swelokia also seceded from Checkoslavakia and became an independent country. There are so many recent precedents justifying such referendum and secession.
The demand for the same opportunity to the people of Tamil Eelam is a reasonable and justiciable one.
When the father of Tamil Eelam Selvanayaga was alive, his party contested the parliamentary elections placing the separate Tamil Eelam as the primary issue and won 18 seats securing 74.2% of votes polled.
The Tamilians and Singhalese are a divided lot among themselves racially and a situation is prevailing in Sri Lanka today that people of both these races cannot live any more together peacefully. The Tamilians living in Sri Lanka today is considering their lives as the lives of prisoners.
The referendum can be ordered even on the basis of the report of the Panel appointed by the Secretary General of UN to enquire into the war crimes in Sri Lanka.
The whole world is anxious about what India, the UN and other world countries are going to do.
